Artist in Residence

Artistic Inspiration Inspired by nature and driven by her passion for horses, Jessica Pilar Clarke — known professionally as J. Pilar or Jessie — paints to express her deep appreciation for equines and their enduring role in human life. As an avid horsewoman, equestrian, owner, and competitor, she maintains daily contact with her subjects, ensuring a constant source of creative inspiration.

Journey to Art Originally an educator, Jessie transitioned to full‑time painting in 2008 after resigning from teaching. Motivated by the creativity she witnessed in her students, she pursued her own artistic impulses. Her style continues to evolve, but one constant remains: a pure love and deep understanding of the horse. Working primarily in oils and acrylics, she captures bold yet soft colors, energy, essence, and sovereignty.

She has experimented with graffiti, appreciating its vibrant colors and messages, and prefers painting on a large scale — “horse size,” as she describes it. Whether on canvas, wood, metal, or glass, her works radiate empathy, elegance, and personal connection. Most subjects are horses she has known and loved, though her portfolio also includes cows, dogs, roosters, landscapes, children, and even murals — from walls and ceilings to the side of an entire barn.

Photography Jessie is also an accomplished photographer. Every painting originates from her own photographs, which are striking works of art in their own right.
